What YOU Can Do As A Bankruptcy Client

San Diego Chapter 13 – San Diego Foreclosure Lawyer

As a San Diego foreclosure lawyer, I know that a lot of material has been written about what potential bankruptcy clients should look for in their San Diego Chapter 13 Lawyer. But, on the other side of the coin, not a lot has been written about what a foreclosure lawyer looks for in their potential client. Just because someone calls our office doesn’t necessirily mean we will take them on as a client. There are a number of factors that come into play and we want to discuss a few of those with you now.

First, both the San Diego foreclosure lawyer and the client have to have their goals aligned. If the client wants to take Route X but the Chapter 13 lawyer recommends Route Y, there is a conflict that must be resolved in order to move forward. The bankruptcy client is ultimately responsible for the final direction of the case.

Second, both the Chapter 13 lawyer and bankruptcy client must be listening to each other. If the client does not understand what the attorney recommends or is simply not listening, a poor result is sure to ensue. Keep in mind you are probably paying your Chapter 13 lawyer a significant amount of money. You should, therefore, be fairly comfortable following his or her advice. You are not only paying for legal competence but also experience.

Finally, make sure to follow all of your San Diego foreclosure lawyer’s instructions. Your attorney will ask you to provide him/her all your financial information. If you fail to include, for example, one of your creditors, your bankruptcy case will not only be delayed but you may be liable for monetary sanction to the bankruptcy court. This is not the time for you to unilaterally decide what information is important and what is not. Please follow ALL instructions.
